Local Governance & Community Development Program

LGCDP is a program to empower the back warded and marginalized group as listed by the state through trainings on social mobilization, personal leadership and citizen awareness and to enable them to access to local bodies and involve intensively in decision mechanism of planning of the VDC and village council and in implementation of such planning in transparent and simple way by collaborating with various agencies of the VDC and to aware them about their rights and responsibilities. This program is launched in seven VDCs (Pasgaun, Bhoje, Bahundanda, Besisahar, Bharte, Mohariyakot & Kuncha) of Lamjung district with the financial support of District Development Committee.

During this FY 2011/2012, a total of 1552 members that includes 154 dalit, 651 janajati and 576 Brahmin/Chhetri of 62 Ward Citizen Forum and & 87 dalit, 53 janajati and 31 Brahmin/Chhetri of 7 Citizens Awareness Center are involved in this program.

Goal
•    To build capacity and voice of people to be able to participate in their own governance and claim services, influence policy in their favor and hold local government accountable in responding and delivering services as per their local needs and priority.

Program objectives
•    The overall objective of this assignment is to implement social mobilization through social mobilizers effectively and efficiently at the village.
•    To implement the social mobilization programme at the village following the approach and modality referred in LGCDP’s social mobilization guideline.
•    To develop capacity of social mobililzers and other village level stakeholders
•    To improve the quality and effective delivery of social mobilization
•    To provide feed-back and suggestions to local bodies on social mobilization

Intervention/Activities
•    Physical Support : Furniture support/ Stationery support to the WCF & CAC
•    Trainings : Citizens awareness & personal leadership training/ Reflect Class

Expected outcomes
• This assignment will improve the quality and delivery of social mobilization at the village. The knowledge and skills of citizens, especially poor and excluded, will be enhanced and participate actively in local governance processes.
