Rural Eco-tourism Promotion Project

Is a partnership project with Caritas Nepal implemented in Northern part of Lamjung district which aims to improve the living status of poor rural community people by promoting their local culture and eco-friendly tourism entrepreneurship.

Lamjung district is one of the hilly districts in Nepal, renowned for and blessed with nature, cultural diversity, and availability of rare herbal plants. "Rural Eco-tourism Promotion Project” in partnership with CHESS Nepal from January 2012-December 2013. The selected VDCs namely Khudi, Taghring, Bhulbhule, Bahundanda and Ghermu are on the way of the famous trekking trails within Annapurna Circuit. The economy of this area is dependent on agriculture and majorly on tourism Due to the new developments such as black topped roads, transportations and packed foods tourist movements via these villages are not being used and the people residing on these foot trails livelihood is under threat. In the area majorly poor, backwarded and marginalized community people are inhabitant

In order to promote eco tourism in the project area, it is important that the communities need to be empowered and united to work collectively. Generating awareness on developing eco tourism within own village is very essential. Creating knowledge about the cultural fullness in the perception of tourism attraction would conserve local identity. Building capacities and enhancing the skills on local resources management would improve the socio-economic status of the community people by promotion tourism based Income Generating Activities (IGA). And hence this project was launched to Increase the quality of life of people through Eco tourism promotion.
