School library awarded on the occasion of Intl. literacy day

Gaun Farka Primary School, Duradanda which is one of the collaborative partner schools of CHESS Nepal is awarded for the best library this year.

District education committee Lamjung selected Navodit library of Gaun Farka Primary School among all the other schools of Lamjung district for the best library and is awarded on the occasion of International Literacy day and National Education day celebrated on 8th September, 2012.

CHESS Nepal, in collaboration with an INGO Room to Read, which is working on the education sector especially focusing on school library establishment, has implemented Reading Room Program in the community schools of Lamjung district since 2008 to till date and as per the program, the library was established in Gaun Farka School in 2009. The report prepared by the Best School Library Selection Committee for the selection of best school under the leadership of School Supervisor of district
education office Lamjung, Mr. Bhojraj Neupane, selected this school as the best school library.

The program of award distribution was organized in the conference hall of Lamjung headquarter by the district education committee Lamjung. During the program, headmaster of the school, Mr. Madhubilas Lamichhane, Library teacher, Mr. Laxman Lamichhane and Library assistant teacher, Mrs  Kala Bhujel were honored by putting shawl and providing them cash along with the certificates by the joint participation of the chief guest of the program, Mr. Baburam Bhandari chief district officer, Mr. Narayan Prasad Bhatta, district education officer, and Mr. Anjan Neupane, acting local development officer, Lamjung.  

Out of the various awards given on the occasion of National Education Day, District Education Committee Lamjung has been providing this best school library award since last two years. Before this, only CHESS Nepal used to provide this award. CHESS Nepal, working with the approach that the role and contribution of INGO/NGO is to provide source and service to the development programs i
mplemented by the Government and to include its learning, practice and approaches to the national and local policy of the Government, is happy and proud that the program of awarding the best library, which has been started by CHESS Nepal, is now being addressed by the District Education Committee Lamjung.

This school is awarded for its excellent services and its influence in the sector of library management, provision to open the library for guardian after the school time, financial and social activities conducted for its sustainability, activities within a library, use of library so as to increase the reading habit of the students. Also, the selection committee has evaluated the admittance of library in the preparation and implementation of school improvement plan of school before the decision is made.

In Lamjung district, there are total of 382 numbers of schools including primary, lower secondary, secondary and higher secondary schools and managed library has been established in more the 200 schools. Out of those 200 schools, CHESS Nepal has supported 175 schools in partnership with Room to Read.
