Agro Business Creation (ABC) Project

The Agro Business Creation (ABC) project was started in April 2010 in Dhital village development committee of Kaski district, with financial support from International Council of Friends of Nepal (ICFON), a Dutch development organisation that supports Nepalese organisations in their activities to improve the livelihood of local people in Nepal. The project beneficiaries include a total of 195 members from nine women groups and 72 children from three children clubs.

The major activities of the women groups include animal raising and vegetable production for income. CHESS Nepal provides them fund necessary for buying animals and vegetable seeds, as well as trainings for skills and technology transfer. Furthermore, these groups participate in various social trainings and other events which are helpful in building up individual leadership qualities and institutional development of the groups. The children clubs mainly carry out extra-curricular activities which help them in socialising with peers, developing leadership skills and improving health.

The key outcomes which are expected at the end of this project (December 2014) include commercial-scale production of vegetables, goat meat and dairy products and a reliable system led by the project beneficiaries for marketing these products.  In addition, it is anticipated that the participation of the project beneficiaries in local development will have increased and the local groups will have initiated and led some of these local development projects.

Goal:
•    To prepare foundation for sustainable rural agriculture and livestock enterprises in Dhital village development committee.

Objectives of the Project:
•    To establish animal raising and vegetable production as major sources of income generation for the project beneficiaries.
•    To build-up capacity of the project beneficiaries for animal and vegetable production and marketing.
•    To support Baraha Technical Institute in Bidabari in its infrastructure and human resource development.
•    Institutional development of local groups engaged in the project.
•    To increase local participation in local development.
